Claudio Monteverdi’s work reveals the revolution of the Seconda Prattica, where the music bends to the inflection of the text to give life to a true representation of affections. The program ranges from the pastoral dances of Orpheus to the Musical Scherzi, up to the great architecture of the Eighth and Ninth Books of Madrigals. Through famous pieces such as Zefiro torna, Tirsi e Clori and Vago augelletto, the innovative use of concertante instruments and a frenetic style emerge, capable of translating the fervor of action, grace or intimate contemplation into rhythm. Curated by Lia Serafini, the project features the Dulcedo instrumental and vocal ensemble, a group from the Department of Early Music at the Vicenza Conservatory. The voices and instruments retrace the period in which the madrigal abandoned rigid counterpoint to become a modern language, suspended between poetry, song, and movement.
