Never before in this still and threatening time of widespread pandemic, the media images have revealed all their power in giving us back the triumph of death: through the daily count of the victims, the sinister statistics, the mass graves for the coffins in the distant suburbs of New York, the bodies wrapped in sheets and left on the street in Ecuador and, in Italy, through the funeral procession of military wagons that from the cemetery of Bergamo, no longer able to accommodate all the coffins,
transported them to crematory ovens in other regions. In fact, there are many examples of triumphs of death that literature, arts, cinema, cultural history have returned to us and continue to do so.
Some of these experiences, in a perspective of close inter artes dialogue, will be accounted for, investigating the anonymous fresco of Palermo and Pisa, questioning Petrarch and Delillo, Bruegel and Picasso, Boccaccio and Manzoni, Levi and Wenders.
