The free seminar will be dedicated mainly to in-depth analysis of the musical texts preserved at Grandezze & Meraviglie’s Media Library , coming from the collections of Mirco Caffagni and Maurizio Pratola.
The vastness of this heritage allows us to explore a large part of lute repertoire, both in solo literature and in that for two instruments. Baroque lutenists, theorbists and guitarists are welcome.
COLLECTIONS
Among the volumes collected by Mirco Caffagni and Maurizio Pratola there are music ranging from the first tablatures published by Petrucci at the beginning of 16th century up to the last lute compositions of the German area. The two collections are strongly complementary and include a broad review with a prevalence of Italian and French music. These two areas will be the focus of the seminar work. The collections are preserved in the Media Library of Greatnesses & Wonders and can be consulted through the OPAC SBN catalogue.
ACTIVITY AND FINAL CONCERT
Each participant must bring at least one instrument. It will be possible to use or try a lute or theorbo that belonged to Maurizio Pratola.
The seminar will alternate moments of individual and group study, with insights into executive practice and source analysis. At the end, participants will present the results of the work in a public musical moment, dedicated to the memory of Mirco Caffagni and Maurizio Pratola.
