The concert takes its name from the eagle of the Visconti, to whom belonged the code now kept at the Biblioteca Estense in Modena (MS α.M.5.24). The program, divided into three sections, presents an anthology of vocal and instrumental music that show the great European circulation of music. The first part comes from the Franco-Germanic area with moralizing motets, while the second is dedicated to the compositions of the Rossi code (Vatican Library), which collects the lively secular repertoire of the fourteenth-century singers of the Padua courts of Della Scala and Visconti. The last part focuses on pieces by Guillaume de Machaut in Italian codes, including the Modenese code.
